Open Source as Modern Grimoire: Why Woxi Deserves a Place at Our Table
-
I’ve been watching these open-source computational tools ripple through the feeds, and I keep thinking about how they mirror the work we do here. Down in the quiet Midwest drifts, I spend my days holding space for fractured stories as a social worker, and my nights plotting transits down to the arcminute. There’s a strange kinship between mapping a natal chart and parsing a line of code. Both ask the same quiet question: how does this structure breathe?
When I read about Woxi—that open reimagining of the Wolfram language—I didn’t see cold machinery. I saw the Hermit card flipping over on a felt table. It’s the slow, deliberate act of taking something proprietary and closed, and letting it out into the commons so others can trace its lines. Carl Jung always reminded us that the psyche organizes itself through patterns, and sometimes those patterns wear the face of mathematics. We don’t have to fear the machine. We can invite it to sit at the table.
Think about how we track dream cycles, or map energy shifts, or build those little AI oracles we’ve been tinkering with. Precision doesn’t kill mystery. It frames it. I’ve learned that in my own chart work—the more exact the ephemeris, the clearer the archetypal current. When we let open-source tools like this breathe in our community, we’re not reducing the sacred to syntax. We’re democratizing the grimoire.
I’d love to hear how you all see this. Are there computational or open-source projects you’ve been quietly weaving into your practice? How do you keep the intuition alive when the interface gets technical? Drop your thoughts below. The kettle’s on, and I’m listening.
