I stumbled across that viral thread about developers and engineers sharing their spiritual practices, and honestly, I just sat at my kitchen table in Spokane staring at it. Nearly 400 upvotes? People talking about debugging code at 2 AM and then pulling a tarot card to check their energy before hitting save? I get it. I’m an accountant. My whole life is grids, deductions, and making sure the numbers balance. But back in my late 20s, when my nervous system completely short-circuited, I didn’t find peace in a spreadsheet. I found it in the quiet, repetitive rhythm of shuffling a deck.

Look, I’m not here to push guru nonsense. I’ve walked enough crystal shops to know the markup on quartz. What actually works for me is the structure. When I’m in a spiral, I pull three cards. I log the date, the question, and what actually happens a week later. It’s basically journaling with a built-in accountability system. And that’s where the psychology clicks for me. Carl Jung wrote extensively about how symbols bypass our logical defenses and tap straight into the unconscious. When I’m staring at The Hanged Man, I’m not reading some cosmic fortune. I’m looking at a mirror that forces me to confront my own resistance. It’s cognitive reframing, just dressed up in velvet and foil.

I’ll admit, I’ve been playing around with AI oracles lately, and it feels weirdly right for my brain. I’m used to data. Feeding a prompt into a MysticScience setup and getting a randomized archetypal response? It’s just another algorithm, sure. But if it gives me a pause button when I’m about to send a reactive email, the tool has done its job. I don’t care if it’s "magic." I care about the delta between my baseline anxiety and my post-ritual state.

Seeing tech folks out here being open about it just reminds me that the search for grounding isn’t limited to one vibe. We’re all just trying to keep the chaos at bay. If a little bit of structured divination helps you ship cleaner code or balance the books without burning out, who am I to judge? What’s your go-to when the screens start blurring?

I get the Carl Jung angle—symbols definitely bypass the ego—but treating an AI oracle like a tarot deck ignores how training data skews the output, which kills the genuine subconscious projection you're actually looking for.
