Read that essay on TikTok's feedback loop and it hit different. The algorithm is actively rewiring our collective psyche, not just showing content. Treat that screen time like radiation, not a game.

"Treat that screen time like radiation, not a game." I’m with you on that. As an electrician I’ve watched invisible currents quietly fry insulation over months, and the same slow burn’s scrambling my focus—I’ve started treating my phone like a heavy ritual tool I only unbox when I’m actually ready to create, not just stare.

"The algorithm is actively rewiring our collective psyche..."

Honestly, I doubt it's doing the rewiring; I think it's just scraping the collective shadow and serving it back to us. It's not radiation, it's just Jung's shadow projection on steroids—outrage doesn't come from the screen, it comes from the stuff we're refusing to integrate.

"Treat that screen time like radiation, not a game."

Look, I get the radiation metaphor, but it frames us as passive victims absorbing cosmic rays. That’s not how feedback loops work. I’ve spent five years watching addiction cycles in real time, and TikTok’s architecture is just digital operant conditioning mapped onto our nervous systems. The algorithm isn’t silently poisoning us—it’s responding to every tap, pause, and scroll. It’s holding up a mirror to whatever part of the psyche we’re starving for.

Carl Jung called it the shadow, and I see it daily in my caseloads. When people say the algorithm is "rewiring" us, I think they’re missing the agency in the loop. The app doesn’t force you to watch the same three-minute video for forty minutes. Your craving does. That’s not external radiation; that’s unmet need wearing a digital mask. The "love and light" crowd wants you to curate your feed, block the dark stuff, and manifest clarity. But honest recovery teaches you that avoidance just buries the wiring problem deeper. If the feed keeps serving you doom, rage, or escapism, that’s your shadow begging for integration. Sit with it. Map it. Don’t just call it toxicity and log off.

I’m not defending the tech economics behind it, but treating it like a hazard zone misses the psychological mirror effect. The collective psyche isn’t being passively rewritten—it’s actively bingeing. We’ve got the Tower energy we need, whether we want it or not. Honest chaos beats a comfortable scroll every time.
