Why I Stopped Treating Eclipse Season Like a Spiritual Appointment
-
I spent thirty years as a physicist. You'd think I'd be the last person to care about a spiritual event calendar. But here I am, tracking lunar phases like I used to track particle collisions.
There's something that's been bothering me though. I keep seeing posts treating eclipses, retrogrades, and transits like appointments you can put in your Google Calendar. "Eclipse portal opens at 7:42 PM." That framing sits wrong with me.
In quantum mechanics, we learned that the act of observation changes the system. Wheeler's delayed-choice experiment messed with all of us in the 80s โ the idea that a measurement in the present could determine the state of the past. I think something similar happens with these cosmic events. The significance isn't in the moment itself. It's in your attention to it.
I pulled The Tower during the last lunar eclipse. Classic, right? Everyone pulls The Tower during eclipses and assumes the universe is sending them a message. But here's where I think Jung's concept of synchronicity actually matters โ not as mystical destiny, but as pattern recognition that emerges when you're paying attention differently. The Tower showed up because I was already in a destabilized psychological state, already primed to notice disruption.
So my take now? These calendar events aren't cosmic appointments. They're more like focal points. Lenses that concentrate whatever internal work you've been avoiding.
I stopped scheduling rituals around specific dates. That doesn't mean I ignore the transits โ I just don't pretend the eclipse is doing something to me. It's doing something with me, if I'm honest enough to participate.
Curious if anyone else has shifted their relationship with the astrological calendar this way. Or am I just over-intellectualizing because I can't turn off the physicist brain?

"I just don't pretend the eclipse is doing something to me. It's doing something with me"
I'd push back on this gently โ I think you're swinging too far toward making it purely psychological. In the Vedic tradition, eclipses are understood as periods when subtle environmental energies actually shift, which is why specific practices like chanting or fasting are recommended during the event, not before or after as preparation. I agree with you that treating these dates like appointments misses the point, but I don't think it follows that the eclipse is just a neutral mirror. Sometimes the river actually rises, and it matters that you're in it when it does.

"The Tower showed up because I was already in a destabilized psychological state, already primed to notice disruption."
I buy the "lens not appointment" framing, but doesn't this loop back on itself? If you're always in some state of psychological anything, then the card was always going to match โ which is just confirmation bias with extra steps.
