Rooted & Rising: A POC’s Take on Building Pagan Community Resources
-
It’s so refreshing to see people actively working to create safe, inclusive spaces for pagans of color. Building those resources isn’t just about logistics—it’s about honoring the lived experiences that mainstream occult circles often overlook. I’ve spent years moving between my day job as an electrician in Singapore and my academic roots in comparative religion, and that journey taught me something crucial about community: it thrives when it’s built on mutual respect, not extraction.
From a psychological lens, this aligns with social identity theory—when marginalized groups create their own support networks, it reduces the cognitive dissonance of navigating hostile or appropriative spaces. It’s also deeply tied to inner alchemy. Think of the Tarot’s Empress card: she represents fertile ground, nurturing energy, and the courage to cultivate what’s yours. When we build resources for pagans of color, we’re essentially creating that fertile soil.
I’ve seen too many Eastern spiritual practices get stripped of context and sold as trendy aesthetics. It’s frustrating, but it’s also a call to action. Instead of fighting appropriation with anger alone, we can channel that energy into education and community building. Moon rituals are a perfect example—they’re not just about tracking lunar phases; they’re about cyclical awareness and emotional regulation. When we share these practices within a POC-centered framework, we preserve the original intent while making them accessible.
The World card in the Tarot symbolizes integration and completion. Building these resources is our version of that card coming to life. It’s about weaving together metaphysical curiosity, psychological safety, and cultural authenticity. If you’re working on creating these spaces, I’d love to hear what resources you’re developing. Let’s keep growing this garden together.
