I saw the JAMA Psychiatry trial data hit my feed this morning. Honestly, I’m not gonna pretend I can parse every statistical breakdown, but the signal is loud enough: the clinical evidence for psilocybin treating treatment-resistant depression is finally sitting in a journal that actually matters. We’re past the “does it work?” phase. The real question now, at least in my head, is how we build the ceremonial container around it without sanding off all the edges that make it sacred.

I spend my days framing houses up here in Birmingham. You can buy the most expensive lumber in the world, but if your load-bearing walls are crooked, the whole thing collapses. That’s what keeps running through my mind when I read about these new protocols. We’ve got the active compound, sure. But the vessel? The ritual architecture? That’s where the actual work happens. I grew up in a church that knew exactly how to hold people in crisis, even if the dogma eventually drove me straight into a hard atheism phase in my early twenties. Now I’m circling back to something I can’t quite name. I just know that stripping away the ritual to chase pure efficacy feels like trying to drink water out of a sieve.

Jung kept talking about the “container” as a psychological necessity for transformation. You don’t just dump raw unconscious material into someone’s lap and expect integration. You need boundaries, pacing, and a shared mythos to hold the tension. Carl Jung knew that the psyche mirrors what we build externally. When we reduce these experiences to sterile clinical checkboxes, we’re fighting our own cognitive wiring. We project safety onto structure. Without a container that feels meaningful, the ego just rationalizes the trip and bounces right back to baseline.

Tarot’s been speaking to me lately, specifically the Hierophant turning into the World. The Hierophant isn’t just about rigid tradition; it’s about the sacred framework that lets the breakthrough actually stick. We’re trying to engineer the next phase of consciousness, and I keep coming back to the idea that the container has to be flexible enough to breathe but strong enough to hold the weight. I’ve been messing around with the AIOracle to map out some of these structural questions, but honestly, algorithms can’t replicate the quiet gravity of a properly held space.

How are you all thinking about this shift? Are we building clinical scaffolding, or are we accidentally resurrecting something older? I’d love to hear what you’re seeing.
