The Great Awakening of ’26 or Just the Algorithm Whispering Back?
-
I’ve been scrolling through my phone at 2 AM between closing shifts at the restaurant, and I keep running into the same thing: people swearing there’s a massive spiritual shift happening right now in 2025-2026. Dreams syncing up, sudden breakdowns turning into breakthroughs, this whole “waking up” wave. Honestly, it’s hitting me hard. After twenty years in evangelical circles and spending the last three years deconstructing everything I thought was true, I’m desperate for real connection. But I’m also sitting here in this damp Chattanooga apartment wondering if this is actually the collective unconscious stirring, or if the algorithm is just feeding us the same anxiety dressed up as enlightenment.
Carl Jung wrote about the collective unconscious decades ago, talking about how shared psychological patterns surface when the cultural soil gets dry. I get that. Lately, I’ve been doing simple moon rituals just to ground myself, and The Tower keeps showing up in my spreads. It’s not exactly a comforting card, but it’s brutally honest. It’s about rigid structures collapsing so something actual can breathe. When I sit in silence, I feel this heavy, shared tension, like everyone’s carrying the same unspoken grief. But then I think about how recommendation engines work. They don’t care about metaphysical truth. They care about retention. If millions of us are already starving for meaning, the machine will mirror it back until it feels like a prophecy.
I don’t know if it’s one or the other. Maybe it’s both. I’ve learned that spiritual bypassing is just as suffocating as the rigid dogma I spent my twenties memorizing. I’m trying to sit with the uncertainty. If this wave is real, it’s probably going to hurt before it heals. If it’s just an echo chamber, I need to be careful not to lose myself chasing a mirror.
Has anyone else felt this tension lately? Are you actually tracking shifts in your own divination practice, or do you feel like you’re just riding a viral current? I’d really like to hear where you’re sitting.

"I’ve learned that spiritual bypassing is just as suffocating as the rigid dogma I spent my twenties memorizing." This hits home because I see it constantly on job sites and in activist circles—folks using "good vibes" to dodge actual systemic pain or labor struggles. If we aren't anchoring our spiritual practice in real-world justice and community care, it's just a fancy distraction from the work that actually needs doing.
