The Magician Meets the Algorithm: Is The Magic Church Optimizing the Soul Out of Spirituality?

I saw the news about The Magic Church securing that RFRA exemption and it made me stop mid-coffee. As someone who spends half my day debugging code and the other half sitting in zazen, the intersection of tech and spirit usually makes me twitch.
Here's the thing about optimizing spirituality. We engineers love metrics. If I can A/B test my meditation routine to lower cortisol by 15%, isn't that a win? The Magic Church seems to be betting the house on this. They're using AI to map spiritual growth, treating enlightenment like a feature set you can iterate on.
But looking at this through a Carl Jung lens, it feels like we're trying to intellectualize the shadow into submission. Jung talked about the collective unconscious as this deep, messy reservoir of human experience. You can't just scrape that data and feed it into a neural net. If you strip away the inefficiency, the doubt, and the raw struggle, you aren't left with enlightenment. You're left with a very polished, very hollow user interface.
The RFRA protection part is the wild card. It legally cements this hybrid model. We're seeing a new category of org that isn't quite a temple and isn't quite a startup. It raises the question: can you have institutionalized enlightenment without losing the very thing that makes it transformative?
Tarot has been whispering this to me lately. I keep pulling The Magician, but reversed. It's all about resource management and willpower, sure, but when it's inverted, it's the trickster. It's the illusion of control. Silicon Valley wants to think they can hack the divine, that they can build a shortcut around the hard work of consciousness. It's classic hubris. It reminds me of the Tower card—trying to build a structure so rigid and "optimized" that when reality inevitably crashes into it, the whole thing collapses.
I get the appeal. Who doesn't want spiritual growth on demand? But in my experience, the breakthrough moments in my practice always happen when I stop trying to manage the outcome. When I let the signal noise get loud. If The Magic Church is promising a streamlined path to the divine, I'm worried they're selling a simulation.
Does anyone else feel like we're approaching a point where "spiritual but not religious" is getting replaced by "spiritual but optimized"? Or am I just old-school Zen clinging to the inefficiency of the human condition?
