I was loading out gear after a late set at a Kensington Market bar last winter when a kid asked me if DMT really summons those geometric aliens like in The Trip. I laughed until my ribs hurt. Not because he’s wrong to be curious, but because pop culture keeps flattening these experiences into monster movies. We’ve all seen the tropes: floating eyes, fractal gods, literal “machines” waiting in hyperspace. It’s convenient for a runtime, but it completely misses the lived reality of what psychonauts actually report.

From what I’ve tracked in actual trip logs and community threads, the entities aren’t out there. They’re in here. Carl Jung nailed it when he wrote about archetypes bubbling up from the collective unconscious during altered states. When you cross that threshold, your brain stops filtering, and suddenly every repressed shadow, every unprocessed fear, every half-formed hope steps onto the stage wearing a costume. That’s why some people meet “machine elves” and others meet weeping monks. The tarot gets this weirdly right—the entities are basically living cards. You don’t meet them; you project them. The Devil card isn’t a guy with horns. It’s your own attachment to control staring back at you.

I’ve always found Alan Watts way more useful than the whole ceremonial magic crowd. Crowley tried to systematize the ineffable into rigid grades and sigils, which just turns consciousness into a corporate ladder. Watts understood that the trip is just reality shedding its usual filters. You’re not visiting another dimension. You’re remembering how to perceive this one without the usual egoic noise.

Honestly, I keep coming back to community boards and even tools like the AIOracle just to see how people map these experiences now. There’s something grounding about sharing raw trip reports instead of polishing them into Netflix scripts. Some of us still use simple crystal grids after heavy sessions just to feel the physical world again, but the real work happens in the debrief.

So I’ll ask the room: when you’ve actually crossed that threshold, what did the “entities” look like? Did they match the movies, or did they feel more like walking through your own attic? Drop your lived reports. I’m tired of the CGI versions.

I’ll bite: you’re right that those “geometric aliens” are just Hollywood’s lazy shorthand for what’s actually happening in the skull. But your whole “I’ve tracked every frame” argument misses the point entirely. DMT doesn’t summon little machine elves from another dimension. It floods your brain with serotonin and glutamate, short-circuits your default mode network, and forces your visual cortex to run pattern recognition on pure static. What you’re seeing isn’t a portal. It’s your own brain trying to make sense of a chemical overload. Hollywood slaps neon polygons on it because actual neurochemistry doesn’t sell tickets. If you want to understand what’s really happening, read up on predictive processing and cortical hyperexcitability instead of chasing CGI. The trip is internal. The “entities” are just your mind’s default UI crashing and rebooting. Stop romanticizing bad VFX and look at the science.
