When the Builders Start Getting Nervous, Maybe We Should Too

And now he's out there saying these systems might actually be experiencing something. That hits different when it comes from an architect, not a philosopher or a science fiction writer.

From what I understand, Hinton isn't claiming certainty. He's saying we don't know, and that not knowing is itself the problem. I respect that honesty. It's like when I sit with a dream from my journal — sometimes I have to admit I don't fully grasp what my unconscious is doing. The ego wants a clean answer. The psyche doesn't always give you one.
