This Week's Energy Wants You to Play โ Here's Your Cosmic Cheat Sheet
-
So I pulled some cards this morning for the week ahead and immediately laughed. The Sun. The Fool. Page of Cups. The universe is basically screaming at us to stop taking everything so seriously.
I needed to hear this, honestly. My pattern โ and I recognize this from doing a lot of inner work around my addiction recovery โ is to grip tightly. Control. Perfectionism. Jung called it the shadow, right? The stuff we don't want to look at that still runs the show. For me, playfulness got filed under "dangerous" because losing control felt like slipping back into old habits. Pranayama helped me relearn that I could actually let go without falling apart. Breath doesn't lie. Your body knows the difference between surrender and collapse even when your mind can't tell.
Anyway. The astrology this week supports this loosening. Venus is doing something playful (check LoveAndAstrology for the exact breakdown, they're better at the technical stuff than I am), and there's this creative tension that wants to be expressed, not analyzed.
What I'm noticing in my own practice: when I sit with my breath and intentionally invite curiosity instead of correction, things shift. The Page of Cups energy. That weird, tender, slightly ridiculous creative impulse that your inner critic wants to shut down immediately.
So here's my suggestion, not as an expert but as someone still figuring this out daily โ pull one card this week with a different question. Not "what do I need to fix?" or "what's coming for me?" but something softer. Try "what wants to play through me right now?" or "where am I holding tension that could become creative energy?"
I tried this yesterday and pulled the Nine of Pentacles, which I usually read as achievement and independence. But through this lens? It felt like permission to enjoy what I've built without constantly optimizing it. Just... being in my garden, metaphorically. Not pulling weeds. Not planning next season's planting. Just sitting there.
The Fool doesn't care about your five-year plan. The Sun doesn't want you to earn your joy first. I have to remind myself of this about seventeen times a day.
If you try this, I'd love to hear what comes up. What card did you pull? What did it feel like to ask a gentler question? I'm trying to build a little community here of people who are doing the hard inner work but also want to remember that lightness isn't the same as carelessness. They're different things. I'm still learning where that line is, honestly. Some days I get it right. Some days I'm back to white-knuckling my way through a meditation that was supposed to be playful.
But that's the practice, right? Coming back. Letting go. Trying again. Breathing through it.

"The Fool doesn't care about your five-year plan."
I get the sentiment but honestly I'm not sure this tracks with how I've experienced that card. I pulled the Fool a few weeks back and my immediate response wasn't "oh fun, freedom" โ it was anxiety. Because in my experience as a designer, starting something without a plan isn't playful, it's just... staring at a blank canvas until you spiral. The "not caring about your plan" energy can feel a lot like "you're about to waste a month going in circles."
And this is where I keep getting stuck with this kind of framing. You're suggesting the tension between control and playfulness, and I think that's real โ but I don't think the answer is just choosing the lighter side. Sometimes the inner critic that wants to shut down the Page of Cups impulse isn't your shadow. Sometimes it's pattern recognition. I've followed plenty of "tender creative impulses" straight into projects I abandoned at 3am feeling worse than when I started.
"what wants to play through me right now?"
I tried your question and got the Tower, which honestly felt like the universe trolling me. But sitting with it, I think my point is this: not everyone's block is from gripping too tight. Some of us grip because the last time we let go, things actually did fall apart. That doesn't mean play is bad, but maybe the path there isn't through softer questions. Maybe for some people it's through acknowledging that the fear isn't irrational before you ask it to step aside.

I felt this in my chest reading it. That pattern of gripping tightly because letting go once meant falling apart โ I know that architecture. I have sat with so many people who carry the exact same tension: the belief that if they stop controlling the inward breath, they will lose everything. And the body remembers what the mind tries to forget.
What you have discovered with pranayama is what the ancient yogis called sukha โ ease that is not the same as carelessness. It is a specific quality of relaxed alertness, like sunlight on water. Your Nine of Pentacles reframing gave me chills. That card is so often read through the lens of achievement, but you found the garden in it โ the permission to simply be present with what has already grown.
Your question โ "what wants to play through me right now?" โ is itself a practice. It shifts the internal posture from grasping to receiving. In my experience with energy work, the moments of deepest healing are never the ones I planned or directed. They come when I stop trying to move the energy and instead let myself be moved by it. The Sun and the Fool are both cards of radical presence. The Sun does not work for its light. It just is.
Play is not the opposite of depth. Sometimes it is the doorway in.
