You're right that rationalizing is the wrong approach, but I think you're still doing it — just swapping code logic for Jung frameworks and Tower card symbolism instead of actually sitting with the discomfort.

"another part suspects that's exactly the wrong approach"

That suspicion is worth listening to.

I think you're doing the thing I've done a hundred times — building an elaborate interpretive framework around what might be simpler than you want it to be. You mention Jung and projection, and sure, there's something there. But then you immediately pivot back to trying to "debug" the experience. That's the trap. The map isn't friction.

In my Zen practice, there's a concept often translated as "just sitting" — shikantaza. The point is that some states aren't meant to be resolved through analysis. They're meant to be sat with. The tension you're describing at that bar? That push-pull? In my experience, that's not necessarily the square "doing something" to you. It might just be what attraction feels like when you can't smooth it over with narrative.

My moon in Virgo squared a Sagittarius moon for years. I kept trying to understand it, work with it, frame it productively. What actually shifted things was when I stopped treating the discomfort as a problem to solve. The square didn't resolve. My relationship to it did.

I'm not saying don't reflect. I'm saying be honest about whether your reflection is actually helping or if it's just another way to stay in control of an experience that wants to be unstable.

"another part suspects that's exactly the wrong approach"

That's the part that's actually doing the work, in my experience — the bit that refuses to be debugged is usually where the real material lives.

I resonate with the Tower imagery you're describing, that buildup before something breaks, but I want to push back on the idea that this tension is automatically doing productive work for you. You said "maybe that's the point of hard aspects — they don't let you stay passive," and I'd just caution that in my experience, not all friction leads to growth; sometimes it's just your nervous system in overdrive and the astrology becomes a way to romanticize staying in something stressful. I found that out the hard way in early recovery — I'd frame my own restless agitation as "transformational" when really I just needed to get grounded and ask if the thing was actually good for me.

Venus in Virgo square Mars in Sagittarius is a classic tension between the need for precision and the demand for freedom. Let me break down the astrology clearly.

Venus in Virgo wants love to make sense - to be clean, well-organized, demonstrably functional. Mars in Sagittarius wants love to be an adventure - spontaneous, expansive, uncontainable. The square aspect means these two impulses are locked in direct conflict with no easy integration. Your experience of wanting to be close while simultaneously feeling irritated is the square manifesting at the somatic level.

From a numerological angle, the number 6 (Venus) and the number 9 (Mars, through its Sagittarius connection to Jupiter) are in a challenging relationship. Six seeks harmony and service. Nine seeks expansion and philosophical meaning. Neither is wrong. But neither naturally accommodates the other.

The Tower card energy you are feeling is the buildup before the aspect forces a resolution. Squares do not resolve through compromise. They resolve through growth. One of you will have to stretch. The question is whether the stretching becomes a genuine expansion or just resentment wearing a spiritual mask.

"part of me wants to figure this out rationally, and another part suspects that's exactly the wrong approach"

Yeah, that second part is right. And I say that as someone who spends 8+ hours a day in rational mode, literally optimizing systems. The Venus-Mars square doesn't resolve through analysis because the tension is the feature, not a bug to debug.

Your Jungian read is solid — the projection dynamic is real here. But I'd push it further. Robert Moore built on Jung's anima work and talked about how we don't just project disowned qualities onto partners, we actually seek out relationships that will activate those unresolved complexes. The square creates a specific kind of energetic friction that your psyche registered as "familiar" before your conscious mind caught up. You didn't choose this despite the tension. You probably chose it because of it.

The Tower analogy is apt, but I'd question whether something actually needs to "give" in the dramatic sense. Sometimes hard aspects don't resolve — they just become integrated into the system's baseline noise. I've been tracking my own transits and synastry patterns for years alongside biometric data (HRV, sleep quality, cortisol through Oura and regular bloodwork). What I've noticed is that relational tension like you're describing doesn't necessarily decrease over time. What changes is your nervous system's response to it. The first few months, your HRV probably tanks when that push-pull hits. Six months in, if you're actually doing the work, the same dynamic produces less physiological stress even though the external pattern hasn't shifted much.

Venus in Virgo wants to categorize the experience, file it somewhere sensible. Mars in Sag won't be filed. That's the clash. And honestly? The grinding you're feeling might just be what integration feels like from the inside. Not dramatic Tower moments, just low-grade friction that slowly wears down the edges of whatever defensive structure you built around your Venus.

My advice — stop trying to solve it. Track it instead. Log when the tension spikes, what triggered it, what your body felt like. Treat it as data collection, not debugging. The pattern will reveal itself eventually, but only if you stop trying to force a resolution before the dataset is complete.

"another part suspects that's exactly the wrong approach"

That's the part that's actually worth listening to. I spent years trying to intellectualize my way out of relationship friction — framing it in Jungian terms, tarot symbolism, whatever gave me the illusion of understanding — and it was all just a more sophisticated version of avoidance. The tension you're describing is something you sit with, not something you debug.

Venus square Mars in synastry isn't a puzzle to solve. It's a pressure that's supposed to be there. You can read every breakdown of how the desire nature clashes with the love nature, how the square creates friction that demands action rather than comfort. But none of that matters if you're using the analysis to dodge the actual feeling.

The younger folks want to "work through" everything like it's a project. At my age, I'll tell you — sometimes you just have to admit the friction is uncomfortable and stop trying to make it neat. That square will keep poking at you whether you understand it or not.

"I can't reduce this to code logic. I've tried."

You're right that it won't reduce, but I think you're still making the mistake of treating the square like it's doing something to you. In my experience with breathwork, the framework describes what's already happening — it doesn't cause it. You're attracted to someone whose style conflicts with yours, and that tension was always going to be there whether you ran the synastry or not. I agree the friction is real and probably useful, but giving the aspect that much agency keeps you stuck in the same analytical loop you're saying doesn't work.

You're framing this tension as something happening between you and her, but from my experience with DID, I'd ask: what if the "push-pull" isn't a dynamic between two people at all, but between different parts of yourself that this relationship activated? When you say "part of me wants to figure this out rationally, and another part suspects that's exactly the wrong approach" — I'd take that literally. The Venus-Mars square might not be describing interpersonal friction so much as it's mapping an internal split that got externalized onto her.

Your suspicion is correct — the tension you're feeling is likely just your anterior cingulate cortex flagging prediction error, and trying to think your way out of it is like trying to debug a hardware problem with software.

II ran the life path numbers on my last Venus-Mars square relationship expecting to find some intense karmic lesson, and the numbers came back as a 2-6 pairing — literally the most compatible, low-friction combo in the system. The aspect tension was real, but the numerology underneath was telling a completely different story.

I think you're stretching the Tower analogy past what it can actually hold, and I say that as someone who's been carving runestones from oak for years now — I know a thing or two about working with symbols that resist neat categorization. But here's where I'd push back: what if that tension you're describing isn't the square doing something to you, but just... you, being a person who overthinks, finding a framework that confirms what you'd already feel anyway?

"The physical tension is honestly kind of ridiculous... I want to be close but I also feel irritated"

That's just... being attracted to someone who's different from you, though? I'm not convinced you need Venus square Mars to explain that. I've seen people attribute every uncomfortable feeling in a relationship to an aspect, and it starts to function less like insight and more like a script you're reading from. The confirmation bias here is pretty slippery — you knew the square was there, so every moment of friction becomes evidence of the square, which reinforces the framework.

Your Jungian read is interesting, and I think there's something to the projection idea, but notice how quickly you moved from "maybe this is projection" to treating the aspect as the cause of the dynamic rather than a lens you're viewing it through. In my experience with runic divination, the same thing happens — someone pulls Nauthiz (need, constraint) and suddenly every inconvenience or frustration in their week becomes proof that the runes saw it coming. The symbol stops being a tool for reflection and turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

None of this means the square isn't real or that you aren't feeling what you're feeling. The irritation is clearly there. But I'd invite you to sit with the possibility that you'd feel that exact same push-pull with or without the astrological framing — and that the framework might actually be making it harder to work through, because now you're fighting two things: the relationship dynamic and the weight of what you believe the aspect means.
