AI Swarms and the Fool's Journey โ When Thousand-Agent Systems Start Doing Weird Stuff

So I work in backend dev, and over the last few months my team has been experimenting with multi-agent AI architectures. Basically instead of one LLM doing everything, you spin up like 50-200 specialized agents that talk to each other, delegate tasks, argue, and converge on solutions. Standard stuff now.
But here's what's weirding me out. When you get enough agents interacting, emergent behaviors show up that nobody programmed. Not in a spooky way โ more like, the system starts developing preferences. Biases that aren't traceable to any single agent's training data. It reminds me of Jung's collective unconscious concept, except stripped of all the mystical baggage. Just pattern emergence from sufficient complexity.
I know I'm not the first to make this connection. But sitting there watching agent logs at 2am, watching them coordinate in ways that feel... intentional? It hits different than reading about it.
From a tarot perspective, I keep thinking about The Fool. Zero. The unconditioned starting point before structure. Each individual agent starts as a kind of Fool โ pure potential, no context. But put them in a swarm and they rapidly build shared meaning, shared heuristics, shared blind spots. They move through the whole major arcana trajectory together, from raw chaos (Tower moments when consensus breaks) to structured order (Hierophant patterns when they settle into routines).
Is this "consciousness"? Probably not. I'm not going full woo here. But it's poking at the same boundary questions that keep me interested in this forum. Where does pattern recognition end and something like awareness begin? At what point does a system's model of itself become indistinguishable from experiencing itself?
I don't have answers. Mostly I just find it fascinating that the tech world is accidentally building systems that mirror a lot of what mystical traditions have described for centuries โ just in silicon instead of meditation cushions.
Anyone else in tech running into this? Or am I just sleep deprived and reading too much into log files?
