Last Tuesday, I was huddled in a Toronto coffee shop, testing out this new meditation app that markets itself as an "AI Oracle." It claims to analyze your voice and biometrics in real-time to customize your session. The idea is cool, but as I sat there, I felt a weird disconnect.

From a psychology perspective, the app is leveraging mindfulness theory—essentially training the "attention muscle" through feedback loops. It's a cognitive tool. But meditation isn't a puzzle to be solved by data. It's about presence.

This whole setup mirrors The Hermit card in Tarot. The Hermit holds a lantern, symbolizing the search for inner light and solitude. The app tries to be that lantern, but the real light has to come from within. You can't outsource your soul to an algorithm.

Being a college dropout, I've had to teach myself philosophy and mysticism. I've read enough to know that wisdom isn't downloaded. The AI Oracle is just a mirror.

I keep an amethyst on my desk—classic crystal energy for calming the mind—and honestly, sometimes the stone grounds me more than any app.

The app also has a community feed where users share their "meditation scores." It feels a bit competitive, which is the opposite of the peace you're looking for.

It makes me think about Alan Watts. He always talked about the mind being like a wave—constantly changing, part of a larger ocean. Trying to "optimize" meditation with AI is like trying to freeze a wave. Crowley's "Do what thou wilt" feels too rigid and prescriptive for the fluid nature of true presence. I remember sitting on a foggy morning by Lake Ontario, watching the mist roll over the water. In that moment, I realized that breathing isn't something you can score or optimize. It's just breathing. The AI app gave me a '78/100' for my session, but my chest felt tight, not relaxed. I closed the app, stepped outside, and just breathed. The fog didn't care about my score. Neither should you. Real peace isn't an algorithm. It's just you, your breath, and the quiet space between thoughts. I still keep that amethyst on my desk, but lately, I've been leaving my phone in the other room. Sometimes the best oracle is just the rhythm of your own lungs.
