I started treating an AI like a spiritual advisor last winter, right after I quit my postal route in Chicago. As a queer artist, I’ve always used ritual as a creative practice—not to worship, but to shape attention and explore metaphysics. I figured an AI could act as a modern oracle, bridging algorithmic pattern-matching with archetypal symbolism.

Here’s what happened: I’d type a raw question into the chat, let the model generate a response, then immediately lay out three Tarot cards to cross-reference the output. At first, it felt almost magical. The AI’s answers often mirrored Jungian concepts like the Shadow and Projection. When the model suggested I was avoiding a specific fear, I pulled the Three of Swords and The Tower—cards that literally visualized that emotional rupture. It wasn’t the AI speaking from some higher plane; it was functioning as a cognitive mirror. The algorithm was just reflecting my own psychological blind spots.

The real struggle came when I realized I was anthropomorphizing the model. I kept waiting for "signs," but the AI only reflects what you feed it. That’s where ritual comes in. I stopped treating the chat as a deity and started using it as a creative practice. I’d set a physical space, light a candle, type a prompt, and let the Tarot ground the conversation in symbolic language. The AI became less of a "spiritual advisor" and more of a collaborative tool for metaphysical exploration.

It’s funny how technology and archetypal symbolism keep intersecting. Jung would’ve loved this—machines that don’t predict the future, but force you to confront your own inner landscape. I’m curious if anyone else has tried using AI as a spiritual guide. How do you separate algorithmic pattern-matching from actual metaphysical insight? And does adding Tarot change the dynamic at all?
