Bless Your Heart: Opening the Throat Chakra Through Tarot & Psychology

Well now, pull up a chair and let’s talk about something that’s been weighing on my mind. As a homemaker who’s spent two decades shuffling the traditional Rider-Waite deck, I’ve noticed how often our throat chakra gets knotted up by life’s daily demands.

Last spring, my youngest was going through a rough patch—barely speaking, shutting down completely. I sat with her on the porch and pulled three cards: The High Priestess, Two of Swords, and Justice. It was a textbook throat chakra blockage. In the Rider-Waite imagery, the Two of Swords shows a blindfolded figure with crossed blades. Psychology calls this an avoidant response; Carl Jung would say she was retreating into her shadow to avoid emotional friction. The throat chakra isn’t just about vocalizing—it’s about aligning your inner truth with your outer expression.

Healing that chakra is alchemy itself. You’re literally turning the lead of fear and silence into the gold of an authentic voice. I used the cards as psychological mirrors, asking her where she felt most constrained. When Justice appeared, it signaled the need for fair, honest communication. We talked through the symbolism until her shoulders finally dropped and she spoke her mind.

Bless your heart, if you’re wrestling with finding your voice, the tarot deck makes a wonderful tool for self-inquiry. How do you work with the throat chakra in your own practice? I’d love to hear your rituals or card spreads. Let’s keep this inner alchemy going.
