I’ve been lurking in this corner of the forum for months, mostly reading threads on moon rituals and metaphysics. As a 32-year-old research assistant in Nashville, I spend my days analyzing datasets and my nights meditating (over a decade of consistent practice). When I see people sharing photos of "orbs" and claiming they’re spirits, I feel I need to share my perspective.

From a physics standpoint, what we label an "orb" is almost always a camera artifact—dust, moisture, or infrared reflection bouncing back into the lens. But the real fascination isn’t the optics; it’s the brain. Psychology calls this pareidolia layered with confirmation bias. Our nervous systems are evolutionarily wired to detect agents in random noise, which is why we see faces in clouds or ghosts in camera flashes. We project meaning onto patterns because we want to.

This connects directly to the Tarot’s Moon card. The Moon represents the subconscious, illusion, and the porous boundary between reality and perception. In deep meditation, I’ve learned that what appears on the "screen" of the mind (or camera) is often just the reflection of our own inner landscape. The quantum observer effect shows us that measurement changes the outcome, but it doesn’t mean every floating dot is a spirit. It means perception is participatory.

I’m not here to dismiss genuine spiritual experiences, but I do get frustrated when people skip the psychological and physical explanations in favor of magical thinking. If you’re seeing orbs, ask yourself: what is my subconscious trying to show me? The Moon card warns us not to mistake fog for truth. I’d love to hear how others navigate the line between camera artifacts, quantum observation, and the psychological projections we all carry.
