I’ve been following the "vibrational frequency of emotions" trend for a while, and as a 21-year-old midwife in Birmingham, I have to push back gently but firmly. The idea that joy "vibrates" at a specific Hertz while fear "vibrates" lower is a neat metaphor, but it doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Emotions aren't radio waves; they're complex neurochemical and electrical events in the brain. Antonio Damasio’s somatic marker hypothesis explains how feelings are literally embodied physiological states—heart rate changes, cortisol spikes, gut tension. They're real, but they don't "tune" into cosmic frequencies.

When I'm holding space for a laboring mother, or trying to figure out how to raise my own kid with a spiritual foundation without imposing rigid dogma, I rely on what actually works: psychological grounding and intuitive reading of the room. In the Tarot, this maps perfectly to The High Priestess. She doesn't preach; she observes, trusts the body's signals, and lets intuition guide action without forcing a belief system. That’s the framework I’m building for my child—teaching them to read their own internal landscape, not to chase abstract "frequencies."

I’m not dismissing the poetic value of the frequency metaphor, but conflating metaphor with physics crosses a line. If we want to work with emotions, let’s use attachment theory, nervous system regulation, and the kind of quiet discernment The High Priestess models. The body speaks in physiology, not hertz. Once we drop the pseudo-science, we can actually focus on what matters: helping my kid build resilience, emotional literacy, and a spiritual compass that doesn’t rely on dogma. Open to hearing how others navigate this balance.
