Quantum Currents: Does QM Actually Prove Consciousness is Fundamental?
-
I’ve spent the better part of three decades working as a social worker in Berlin, listening to people’s stories, trying to untangle the messy intersection of human experience and cosmic currents. Before that, I taught yoga, but I grew pretty fed up with how it’s been turned into a wellness commodity—stretching poses stripped of their philosophical roots. That’s why I keep circling back to quantum mechanics and consciousness. Does QM prove the mind is fundamental, or are we just projecting our desire for meaning onto wave functions?
From a psychological lens, I keep returning to Jung’s concept of synchronicity—meaningful coincidences that defy causal explanation. Quantum mechanics, with its observer effect, feels like a modern echo of that. When a particle’s state collapses only when measured, it mirrors how human perception shapes reality. In Tarot, this resonates with The Hermit: stepping back from the noise, seeking inner light rather than external validation. It’s also The Star, representing those cosmic currents and the belief that consciousness isn’t just a biological byproduct, but a fundamental force.
I’ve seen too many clients try to force answers, chasing certainty like it’s a yoga pose you can just hold. But QM suggests reality is probabilistic, not fixed. That’s where Vygotsky’s social development theory kicks in—we construct understanding through dialogue and shared experience, not isolated deduction. The Moon card captures this tension: the murky space between known and unknown, where intuition and doubt dance together.
So, does quantum mechanics actually prove consciousness is fundamental? I’m leaning toward “no,” but I’m fascinated by the overlap. It’s less about hard proof and more about how we frame the cosmic currents that run through us. What’s your take—do you see the observer effect as evidence, or just a clever metaphor for human perception?
