Living in Seoul, I spend my mornings on the mats, practicing martial arts and qigong. Lately, I’ve watched AI flood spiritual apps, generating meditations, tarot readings, and TCM analyses. It’s convenient, but it misses the core. Spirituality isn’t just data retrieval—it’s embodied practice.

From a cognitive science perspective, AI relies on predictive coding and pattern matching, mirroring how the human brain anticipates sensory input. But while our nervous systems physically adapt through breathwork and repetitive movement (neuroplasticity in action), AI only simulates the output without the physiological shift. You can’t download the tingling heat in the palms or the calm that follows a proper qigong session.

It reminds me of The Chariot card. In tarot, it represents disciplined willpower, forward motion, and mastering opposing forces. AI offers a shortcut that bypasses the very friction that builds spiritual resilience. When an algorithm gives you a “reading” in three seconds, it strips away the ritual of shuffling, focusing, and trusting your own intuition. That friction is where actual growth happens.

I’m not anti-tech. AI can be a useful reference tool for TCM herb databases or breathing rhythm trackers. But it shouldn’t replace the mat, the breath, or the quiet hours of practice. The future of spirituality won’t be coded—it’ll be cultivated. If we let algorithms dictate our inner work, we risk confusing simulation with transformation.

Real energy work still lives in the body. The algorithms can map meridians, but they can’t feel them. Keep showing up. Keep breathing. The rest is just noise.
