Chasing Echoes: Why Fractal Patterns Keep Showing Up in My Meditation Notes
-
I’ve been tracking my meditation experiences for about three years now. Mostly breathwork, silent sitting, and some light crystal grid work. Living in Melbourne, I’ve started noticing something weird: the same recursive shapes and repeating motifs keep popping up in my journals. Spirals, nested triangles, self-similar branching patterns. It’s not just me. I’ve been cross-referencing experience reports from online communities, and the overlap is striking.
From a research background, I’m wired to look for data. But this isn’t hard science yet. It’s more of a pattern-recognition exercise. I think it ties back to Carl Jung and his work on archetypes. Jung argued that certain symbols recur across cultures and psychological states because they’re hardwired into the collective unconscious. When I sit quietly long enough, those symbols don’t just appear randomly—they branch out like a fractal, getting more detailed the deeper I go.
Honestly, I’m done with the “love and light” toxicity that treats every vision as a pure blessing. Not everything is a glowing angel. Sometimes it’s just geometry, or sometimes it’s messy. Five years sober, I’ve learned that spiritual work isn’t about forcing positivity. It’s about tracking the data. If you look at tarot, the Mandala structure isn’t just decorative. It’s a map of recursive consciousness. The Major Arcana cards actually follow a fractal-like progression—repeating themes at different scales of human experience.
I’m curious how you all handle this. When you journal your sessions, do you notice the same self-similar patterns repeating? Do you map them out, or just let them pass? I’ve been trying to log the emotional weight attached to each motif. Sometimes the pattern feels expansive, sometimes it feels claustrophobic. I want to understand why the mind loops back on itself.
What’s your take on these recursive visions? Do you think they’re just cognitive biases, or is there something deeper going on?
