Let’s get one thing straight right away: you cannot optimize a spiritual decision like you’re running a quantum annealing algorithm. I’ve spent the last three years running a small breathwork circle at the community center out here in the sticks, raising kids as a stay-at-home parent, and slinging knives in the kitchen. What I’ve learned is that treating spiritual choices like a math problem is exactly why people get stuck.

Quantum annealing searches for a global minimum by cooling a system and letting it settle. Spiritual decisions don’t settle. They require you to step into the unknown. When you try to “optimize” a life choice—whether it’s changing careers, ending a relationship, or committing to a practice—you trigger cognitive overload. Psychology calls this analysis paralysis. Your prefrontal cortex burns out trying to weigh every variable, and you freeze. The brain isn’t built to calculate spiritual alignment. It’s built to feel it.

Tarot knows this. Look at The Chariot. It’s not about perfect strategy; it’s about willpower and moving forward despite the noise. Or take The Hermit: withdrawal isn’t optimization, it’s deliberate stillness. You don’t calculate your way to wisdom. You breathe, you sit, you let the answer surface.

I tell my breathwork students this every week: stop trying to solve the universe like a spreadsheet. Force clarity, and you’ll get dissonance. Let clarity find you.

So, when was the last time you realized you were over-engineering a spiritual choice? Did you force it, or did you wait for it? Let’s cut through the noise.
