I want to start by saying: whatever you’re going through right now is completely valid. Spiritual emergencies can feel like your whole world is fracturing, and it’s okay to lean into that discomfort instead of fighting it.

When I left my evangelical background a few years ago, I hit what Stan Grof calls a “spiritual emergency.” It wasn’t just an emotional crisis—it felt transpersonal, like my old identity was literally dissolving. As a voice actor based here in Tucson, I’ve learned to treat that dissolution not as a breakdown, but as a necessary clearing.

Grof’s work in transpersonal psychology really helped me reframe the experience. He suggests that when the ego’s structures crack open, we’re actually accessing deeper layers of consciousness. In Tarot, this shows up clearly in the Major Arcana. The Tower isn’t just destruction; it’s the sudden shattering of outdated beliefs. Death isn’t literal; it’s the psychological transition from one stage of self to another. These cards became my roadmap during deconstruction.

Jungian archetypes played a huge role too. When you’re untangling dogma, you often encounter the Shadow—the parts of yourself that were suppressed by rigid teachings. Embracing that shadow work, paired with simple moon rituals and breath meditation, helped me rebuild without losing myself.

If you’re in the thick of it, please know you’re not alone. The emergency is a doorway, not a dead end. I’m here if you want to share your experience or just need a listening ear. What part of your spiritual transition feels most intense right now?
