I’m fifty now, running a busy restaurant in Chattanooga. Between the dinner rush and the endless inventory, my mind wanders to the big questions. For most of my life, I was evangelical, but lately, I’ve been going through a brutal deconstruction. I’m trying to find new language for this experience, and I’ve been diving into the science behind those intense mystical moments.

There’s fascinating research on neural oscillations—specifically phase synchronization and cross-frequency coupling in the gamma band. When the brain syncs up like that, it creates a state of hyper-awareness or "unity" that feels incredibly mystical. It’s the biological echo of what tarot calls the Hanged Man. That card shows a figure suspended upside down, sacrificing his old way of seeing the world to find a completely new perspective. It’s not just a symbol; it’s a psychological map for deconstruction.

Jung would say we’re engaging with the shadow and archetypes to rebuild our psyche. For me, watching my own brainwaves sync up during meditation feels like the Hanged Man’s sacrifice. I’m letting go of the old evangelical framework and finding a deeper, more personal connection to the metaphysical. The science and the symbolism are speaking the same language.

It’s a struggle, but it’s comforting to see the biology back up the feeling of "letting go." I’m still figuring this out, but the connection between gamma synchronization and the Hanged Man’s suspended perspective is a game-changer for my understanding of consciousness. This blend of neuroscience and symbolism is exactly what I’m looking for. Has anyone else connected neural sync to specific archetypes or tarot cards? I’d love to hear your perspective.
