I'm new to Consciousness after death — what does science actually say? — can someone explain the measurement gap?
-
I’ve spent the last few weeks reading up on the topic, and honestly, I’m still stuck in the weeds. Here’s where I am: I know that David Chalmers famously described the "hard problem" of subjective experience, and I’ve read about quantum mechanics being tossed around in spiritual circles. I also came across the work of Roger Penrose and Stephen Hameroff on microtubule theories, plus some recent studies on near-death experiences from the AWARE study.
What’s confusing me is the disconnect between pop-science claims and actual peer-reviewed data. I keep seeing headlines about brain activity lasting minutes after clinical death, but I’m not sure how reliable those EEG findings really are. I’ve tried reading the original papers, but the methodology sections are pretty dense.
So, Consciousness after death — what does science actually say? I’d really appreciate it if someone could break down the current scientific consensus (or lack thereof). Are we just looking at neurological noise, or is there legitimate research pointing to something more? I’m a complete beginner here, so an ELI5-style explanation would mean a lot. Thanks in advance!
