RAND’s numbers don’t lie: microdosing is here, and the law is still catching up
-
I read the RAND Corporation report this morning. Black coffee, Lisbon fog rolling over the tiles. The data’s solid. They tracked eleven different psychedelics and the microdosing schedules people are actually using. It’s not a niche subculture anymore. It’s mainstream. That honestly rattles me. I’ve been sober for five years. I know exactly what happens when you chase altered states without doing the actual work.
We’re watching a classic normalization bias play out. People assume widespread use equals widespread safety. It doesn’t. Just because your coworker pops a sub-perceptual dose before a client meeting doesn’t mean they’re facing their shadow. Carl Jung warned us about this. The collective unconscious doesn’t care about your corporate KPIs or your carefully arranged amethyst cluster. It demands raw honesty. Not Instagram-ready enlightenment.
Look at the regulatory side. Governments are moving at glacial speed. We’re watching a cultural shift outpace policy by a decade minimum. That gap creates a wild west. Unregulated vendors, inconsistent dosing, spiritual bypassing dressed up as clinical breakthroughs. I see it constantly in these circles. Love-and-light toxic positivity masking real trauma. People treating the High Priestess like a mood ring instead of a mirror.
Microdosing might smooth the edges. It might help with focus. But it won’t outrun your patterns. If anything, it just gives you a clearer view of the mess you’re avoiding. Regulation will eventually catch up. When it does, I hope it’s built on actual data, not wellness influencer hype. Until then? Tread lightly. Know why you’re stepping into the garden. Leave the fairy dust at the door.
