I stumbled across Vlatko Vedral’s recent talks on quantum consciousness last week, and honestly, it made me close my Figma tab and just stare at my second monitor for ten minutes. The premise is heavy: human awareness might actually leverage quantum coherence, similar to how the double-slit experiment shows observation collapsing a wave function. His kicker? We might be able to train that coherence through sustained, focused attention. Translation: meditation isn’t just stress relief. It could be literal cognitive optimization.

As a UX designer based in Hangzhou, I spend my days mapping user flows and my nights trying to figure out why most meditation apps feel like digital pacifiers. They track breath, count minutes, slap on some lo-fi gradients, but do they actually help you reach a state where neural firing stops fragmenting? If Vedral’s framework has any merit, coherence isn’t a poetic metaphor. It’s a measurable shift in how information integrates across the brain. That sounds less like mysticism and more like a system architecture problem.

From a psychology angle, it mirrors Carl Jung’s concept of the collective unconscious—this underlying, synchronized layer beneath the ego’s constant noise. In tarot, that threshold energy is exactly what the High Priestess represents: intuition, hidden patterns, the space between the known and the unseen. I’m not claiming meditation literally manipulates quantum states, but I’ve noticed that when I actually commit to a consistent practice (no streak-chasing, just raw sitting), my design work gets noticeably less fragmented. Fewer context switches. Deeper flow. Less mental static.

The real bottleneck is the tooling. Most apps treat meditation like a habit tracker, not a coherence trainer. If we’re talking about attention-level training, the UX needs to reflect that. Less gamification. More actual biofeedback. Maybe even lightweight EEG integrations that map neural synchrony instead of just logging duration. I’m currently stress-testing a few indie apps with HMDA-style attention metrics, and the gap between “calm” and actual coherence training is massive.

Has anyone else tried pairing Vedral’s model with actual practice? Or do we just treat the quantum angle as a nice metaphor until the hardware catches up? I’d love to hear how you all measure depth versus just clocking minutes.
