I’ve been knee-deep in some particle physics papers this week, and I stumbled across something that completely short-circuited my morning practice. The BESIII collaboration at the Institute of High Energy Physics in Beijing recently published findings in Physical Review Letters detailing experimental evidence for a glueball. For those not in the weeds, a glueball is a bound state composed entirely of gluons—the carriers of the strong nuclear force. We’re literally talking about a particle made of pure force, not quarks or traditional matter.
This is wild to me because we’re still taught this rigid split between "stuff" and "energy." But if force itself can clump together and take on measurable mass, where’s the actual boundary? As a yoga teacher in Duluth, I see this play out daily. The industry wants to sell me perfectly aligned asana and heated mat classes, treating the body like a static object to be sculpted. But my practice has always felt more like energy work—breath, intention, movement. If physics is telling us that the "skeleton" of reality is actually dynamic force fields holding everything together, then maybe the commercial fixation on rigid form is just a psychological coping mechanism for uncertainty.
Carl Jung touched on something similar with his late concept of the psychoid, suggesting that matter and psyche aren’t separate realms but different expressions of a single underlying process. It mirrors the Magician card in tarot perfectly—wands channeling elemental force, showing that what we call "solid" is just energy moving at a certain frequency. When I’m doing voice acting, I don’t think about the physical shape of my vocal cords; I think about resonance, vibration, and where the energy wants to go.
I’m not saying physics validates mystical practices outright. I’m just noticing the overlap. If force can materialize into a detectable particle, does that mean our energy work (prana, chi, whatever you want to call it) is interacting with the same substrate?
