Look, I didn’t set out to become a lab rat for audio therapy. I’m a thirty-eight-year-old construction worker in Spokane, and between the jackhammers and the deployments, my nervous system basically short-circuited. I got diagnosed with service-connected PTSD and chronic tinnitus around the same time. The ringing was constant. A high-C shriek that wouldn’t shut up. For years, I just tried to drown it out. Then I started messing with targeted ultrasonic frequencies during my daily sits, and honestly? It flipped a switch.

I found these specific tone generators that hover right at the edge of hearing, sometimes overlapping with my own tinnitus pitch. Instead of fighting it, I started using it as an anchor. The weird thing is, when you lean into that noise instead of running from it, your brain stops treating it like a threat. I read somewhere about the frequency-following response — how neural oscillations can sync up to external auditory rhythms — but I’m not a neuroscientist. I’m just someone who needed a rope down out of my own head.

In my experience, this technique forces a brutal kind of presence. You can’t zone out. The tone demands attention, which sounds exhausting, but it actually quieted the panic loops. It felt a lot like the shadow work Carl Jung talked about. You’re staring directly at the part of your psyche that’s been screaming in the background, refusing to look away until it stops feeling like a monster and starts feeling like just… data. When I first started doing this, it hit me hard. It’s exactly like pulling The Tower in a spread. That sudden, deafening disruption that cracks your ego open. But once the rubble settles, you can actually build something stable on top of it.

I’ve been running these legal psychedelic trials lately, and combining them with ultrasonic anchoring during meditation has been… well, it’s been grounding. Not in a woo-woo way, but in a physiological way. The tones give the nervous system a predictable pattern to latch onto while the chemistry does its thing. I’m still figuring out the frequency combos, and I’d never tell anyone to just try this without proper vetting. Trauma work is messy, and audio stimulation isn’t a cure-all. But for me, turning that constant ringing into a meditation bell changed everything.

Has anyone else messed with tone masking or ultrasonic anchors during sits? I’m curious if you’ve noticed similar shifts in how your attention locks in, or if it just feels like another gadget chasing a rabbit. I’m all ears.
