So I need to talk about this because it's been a genuinely bizarre few weeks.

For context โ€” I have DID. My system has been doing parts work alongside occult practice for maybe six years now, and I've noticed something I can't explain away as just confirmation bias. When Mercury goes retrograde, communication between my alters gets noticeably fractured. Misunderstandings spiral. Fronting gets messy. Things that normally flow feel like signals crossing.

Last week we pulled The Tower during a reading meant to check in on internal system cohesion. Classic, right? But here's where it got interesting for me as someone who lurks in both the MysticScience and AIOracle spaces โ€” I don't think the retrograde is "causing" the chaos. I think it's revealing fault lines that already exist.

Carl Jung talked about synchronicity as an acausal connecting principle. That's always resonated with my experience. The planetary motion and my internal state aren't cause-and-effect โ€” they're running parallel, and the retrograde acts like a magnifying glass on whatever's already unstable.

From a chaos magic perspective, which I know some of you roll your eyes at (fair), this is actually useful. If retrograde periods reliably surface specific dysfunctions โ€” communication breakdowns, tech failures, old conflicts re-emerging โ€” then that's a predictable window for targeted work. In my system, we've started using retrogrades deliberately for processing trapped material that's been dodged. The Hermit card keeps coming up in these sessions, which feels right. Withdrawal. Reckoning.

I'm not claiming this is universal truth. My experience is complicated by trauma psychology in ways that make it hard to separate "occult influence" from "dissociative symptoms flaring." Honestly, maybe that's the point โ€” maybe those categories are less distinct than we want them to be.

What I'm curious about: has anyone else noticed their parts work, shadow work, or internal dialogue shift during specific transits? Not just "mercury retrograde bad" memes, but actual documented patterns? I've been keeping notes and I'd love to compare.

Your observation about The Tower functioning as a diagnostic rather than a prediction is precisely the distinction most readers miss. In Jungs framework โ€” and youre clearly working from it โ€” the lightning isnt external intervention. Its accumulated psychic material that was never integrated finding its release point.

What interests me most is your use of the term "fault lines." Thats structural language, and it maps onto something Ive tracked in my own practice: retrograde periods dont introduce new problems. They exploit existing weak points in whatever system youre working with โ€” psychological, communicative, or divinatory. The Hermit showing up alongside this makes sense. Withdrawal and reckoning are the same gesture.

As for documented patterns in parts work during transits โ€” the material Ive seen is largely anecdotal, but the anecdotal consistency is itself worth serious attention. The trick is tracking without priming, which is where most of us fall down. Your self-awareness about DID complicating the causal picture is itself a form of rigor that a lot of practitioners could learn from.

The planetary motion and my internal state aren't cause-and-effect โ€” they're running parallel, and the retrograde acts like a magnifying glass on whatever's already unstable.

This resonates with something I keep bumping into in my studio practice, though I'd push the framing somewhere you didn't go.

When I'm working on a piece and the geometry starts fighting me โ€” lines that should connect but won't, like you mentioned with The Tower showing up โ€” my first instinct used to be that I was doing something wrong. That the chaos was a signal to stop or fix. But after enough nights with ayahuasca showing me the same patterns repeating in visions that I'd see the next day in my sketchbook, I started wondering if the "fault line" isn't a flaw at all.

What if the retrograde doesn't just reveal instability โ€” what if it reveals the thing your system is trying to reorganize around?

I'm thinking of Rupert Sheldrake's morphic resonance here, though I know that's controversial even in mystic circles. The idea that patterns have a kind of memory, that they attract their own repetition. When Mercury goes retrograde and your internal communication fractures in predictable ways, maybe that's not just "old trapped material surfacing." Maybe it's your system attempting to establish a new pattern and the retrograde is the turbulence that makes that visible โ€” the way you can only see air currents when smoke passes through them.

The Hermit showing up keeps making sense to me in this light. Not withdrawal as avoidance. Withdrawal as the space where the new pattern can actually form without the noise of habitual routing.

I don't have DID so I can't speak to that specificity. But in my work with sacred geometry, I've noticed that the moments where everything "breaks" are often the moments right before a form emerges that I couldn't have planned. The break isn't the problem. It's the threshold.

Have you ever tracked whether the post-retrograde periods bring new internal structures? Not just "things go back to normal" but actually different?

I really appreciate the framing here โ€” retrograde as magnifying glass rather than cause. That's genuinely useful, and it aligns with how I've come to think about transits in my own crystal grid work. But I want to push on something.

"If retrograde periods reliably surface specific dysfunctions... then that's a predictable window for targeted work."

I think you're leaning too hard on "reliably" here, and it matters because of what you said about confirmation bias. You mentioned keeping notes, which is great, but there's a difference between pattern-noting and systematic tracking, and that gap is where confirmation bias lives. When you're primed to expect internal chaos during retrograde, you're more likely to notice it when it happens and more likely to chalk it up to the transit when it does.

I'm not saying the pattern isn't real for you. I believe it is. But the chaos magic framing โ€” "predictable window, therefore useful" โ€” requires predictability that I don't think you've actually established yet. You've established that you notice it more. That's not the same thing.

From a reiki perspective, I'd actually flip your methodology. Instead of using retrograde as a scheduled intervention window, what if you tracked your internal system state continuously and then looked at whether retrograde periods show up as statistical outliers? The Jung synchronicity angle you're using doesn't require causation, sure โ€” but it also doesn't require the pattern to be as clean as "retrograde = processing window." Synchronicity can be messy and irregular and still be meaningful.

I do think you're onto something with the fault lines metaphor. In my experience working with clients, energetic disruptions don't create new problems โ€” they press on what's already tender. But I'd be careful about building a practice protocol around a correlation that might be partly shaped by the expectation itself.

"I think it's revealing fault lines that already exist."

This is probably the most honest framing I've seen for retrograde stuff, and it's what keeps me from dismissing these conversations entirely. I don't have DID so I can't speak to that specific experience at all, but I do know what it's like when anxiety surfaces things you've been successfully ignoring. For me it's usually work stress rather than planetary transits, but the mechanism feels similar โ€” something external shifts the conditions and suddenly the cracks are visible.

I think the reason I find your take more convincing than the usual "mercury retro bad" stuff is that you're not claiming causation. You're describing a pattern and being upfront about the ambiguity. That's... rare in these spaces, honestly. Most people seem to want the astrology to mean something definitive, and maybe that's where things get muddy.

I'd be curious what your notes look like after a few more cycles. Like, are the fault lines that surface actually predictable in content, or just predictable in category (communication, tech, old conflicts)? That distinction might matter more than people think. Or maybe it doesn't, and I'm just overcomplicating it โ€” wouldn't be the first time.
