I was hauling a load up the M6 last night, rain lashing the windshield, and I saw this flock of starlings moving in that impossible, fluid shape. It hit me hard. I've been reading up on how birds navigate using cryptochromes in their eyes, detecting the Earth's magnetic field through quantum entanglement. It's not woo-woo; it's real physics. Quantum entanglement is the mechanism here, allowing the birds to "see" fields we can't perceive.

This got me thinking about that "gut feeling" I've been ignoring lately. In spiritual circles, we get so caught up in individual ascension or toxic positivity that we bypass the messy, biological reality of how consciousness might actually work. If birds use non-local quantum effects to navigate thousands of miles without a map, why do we dismiss human intuition as just cognitive bias? Or worse, spiritualize it into something separate from our bodies?

I struggle with this daily. As an activist, I'm constantly told to trust data, to be rational. But that "rationality" often just protects the status quo. When I feel a pull to support a specific cause or walk away from a situation that feels off, it feels like what Jung described as the collective unconscious, but now I'm wondering if there's a physical substrate there too. Maybe our intuition is a form of sensory perception we've atrophied because we live in concrete boxes and stare at screens all day.

Living in Manchester, with the grey skies and the constant grind, it's easy to feel disconnected. I spend so much time in the cab, isolated, that when I do feel that intuitive jolt, I second-guess myself. Is it just pattern recognition? Or is it something more? I recall a time when I trusted a hunch about a community project here in the city, and it saved us from a bad partnership. People called it luck. I want to believe it was the same physics that guides the robins.

There's a part of me that resents the reductionism. Science explains the 'how' of the birds, but does it explain the 'why' of our inner knowing? When I'm meditating, trying to clear the static, I sometimes feel like I'm tuning into a frequency. It reminds me of the Hanged One in the tarot deck—suspended, seeing the world upside down, accessing wisdom through surrender. If the physics allows for non-local connection, then the activist work I do, the belief that we can shift collective consciousness, feels less like a pipe dream and more like working with the grain of the universe.

I'm not saying we should ditch critical thinking. Spiritual bypassing is dangerous and I fight that tooth and nail. But maybe it's time we stopped fearing the magic because it turns out to be science. Or maybe the science is just revealing the magic all along. I've been feeling this resonance lately, this knowing that comes without words. Has anyone else felt this shift? Or is this just a tired driver hallucinating on the M6?
