I tracked my tarot spreads and therapy notes for six months. The overlap is genuinely unsettling.

Look, I know how this sounds. Another therapist who accidentally fell down the occult rabbit hole while trying to debug why their code kept failing. (Yeah, I used to write software before I swapped it for processing other people’s trauma. I still miss the clean logic of a compiler. At least segfaults don’t judge you.) Anyway, I got weirdly curious about whether my deck was just a fancy Rorschach test or actually pulling something useful. So I started cross-referencing my weekly pulls with my own therapy notes. Six months in, and honestly? I’m mildly terrified.
The patterns weren’t vague. They were suspiciously specific. When I kept pulling the Eight of Swords during a stretch of heavy self-doubt, my therapist was literally mapping out my cognitive distortions and that whole “filtering” bias we all love to hate. A few weeks later, The Tower showed up right as I finally stopped avoiding a conversation about my professional boundaries. It’s not like the cards are reading my mind. I mean, I’m a firm believer that Carl Jung had it right when he talked about synchronicity and projective mechanisms. The deck’s just a mirror. Therapy’s just a mirror with better lighting and a recliner. Both are tapping into the same shadow material, just speaking different dialects.
What gets me is how clinical frameworks and archaic symbolism keep converging on the exact same blind spots. I’ll sit there with my cheap crystal grid (don’t judge me, Chattanooga humidity does a number on anything electronic, including my patience) and watch the same themes bleed through. The Hanged Man as surrender. The Three of Swords as processed grief. It’s like my unconscious is running a parallel processing system and both the deck and the session are just different APIs accessing the same backend.
I don’t pretend to have the answer. Maybe it’s just confirmation bias wearing a velvet robe. But if panpsychism is even remotely on the right track, maybe consciousness just likes to reflect itself in whatever symbolic container we hand it. Cards, talk therapy, whatever. I’m just trying not to overthink it. Has anyone else actually tracked this kind of overlap? Or am I just the only one who takes their own projections this seriously?
