I don’t post much here, but something’s been sticking with me. I’m a new dad in Melbourne, and half the time I’m just sitting on the balcony with a black coffee while the baby naps, watching Starlink trains or the ISS crawl across the sky. I track them on apps now. Real-time. No naked-eye guesswork. And honestly? It’s the closest thing to the old sky-watching rituals we ever had, just stripped of the mystique and replaced with raw human ambition.

People act like tracking satellites kills the magic. It doesn’t. It just replaces the fairy tales with orbital mechanics. We’re still doing the same psychological work our ancestors did when they mapped constellations. Carl Jung’s theory of psychological projection fits this perfectly — we dump our need for order, meaning, and connection onto whatever’s overhead. Back then it was mythic beasts. Now it’s communication arrays. The impulse hasn’t changed. We just upgraded the hardware.

From a metaphysical angle, I’ve been leaning into moon rituals lately. Not because I believe the moon’s pulling on my hormones (I’m a musician, I deal in acoustics and resonance, not pseudoscience), but because the lunar cycle is a built-in metronome. Satellites don’t care about phases. They just move. And that’s where the tarot symbolism hits me hard. Look at The Star card. It’s not about blind faith. It’s about orientation. When you can pull up an app and see exactly where a satellite is, you’re not losing wonder. You’re getting a straight line to how we actually reach for the stars. Stop romanticizing the dark and start respecting the engineering. The sky isn’t a canvas for myths anymore. It’s a live feed of human ambition, and it’s about damn time we stopped pretending otherwise.
