Tarot gets this intuitively. When I pull the High Priestess, I’m not just looking at ink on cardboard. I’m tapping into a symbol that holds centuries of unspoken knowing, sitting right on the threshold between logic and intuition. You can scan my brain while I interpret a spread, and you’ll see networks lighting up. But you won’t catch the meaning. Meaning doesn’t live in the coordinates. It emerges from the whole system interacting with the world.
I’ve seen this play out in my own energy work, too. A client will sit there, tense, talking about burnout. I’ll hand them a simple clear quartz point and guide them through a grounding cycle. Suddenly, their whole posture shifts. The air in the room feels lighter. Is that just the parietal lobe firing? Maybe. But reducing it to a single region feels like trying to explain a symphony by measuring the strings on a violin.
