I’ve been sitting with this thread for a few days, and I just want to say how much I appreciate everyone sharing their notes on the latest clinical trials. It’s really reassuring to see a community that actually reads the papers instead of just reposting hype.

At 19, I never thought I’d be cross-referencing neurology journals with ritual practice, but here we are. As a data analyst living in Manchester, I’m wired to look for patterns, and lately, the numbers around high-dose psilocybin and neurodegeneration have been impossible to ignore. I’ve been tracking the ongoing trials from Imperial College London and Johns Hopkins, and if the recent Alzheimer’s data holds up under replication, we’re genuinely watching a pivot point. It’s no longer just about “expanding consciousness” in a philosophical sense—we might be looking at actual neural restoration. From what I understand, psilocybin temporarily quiets the default mode network, which lets dormant synaptic pathways reconnect. That’s not mysticism; that’s measurable neuroplasticity.

Honestly, it’s hitting different for me because I’ve spent the last couple of years teaching yoga, and I’m getting really tired of how the practice got reduced to Instagram poses and corporate wellness packages. We used to talk about nervous system regulation, but now it’s just about flexibility metrics. Seeing compounds like psilocybin actually repair neural degradation feels like a return to those older, root-level understandings of the body as a living, adaptive system. It reminds me of how Carl Jung theorised the individuation process—the psyche breaking down fragmented parts so it can reintegrate them whole. The Tower in tarot always freaked me out until I realised it’s just structural collapse making room for The Star’s gentle re-weaving. Maybe that’s exactly what’s happening at a cellular level here.

I don’t want to overpromise, and I know peer review takes time. But if we’re finally getting clinical validation that plant allies can literally help rebuild a fracturing mind, it changes how we think about ritual, set, and setting. Between running pattern models through AIOracle and tracking MoonRituals, this research just makes those old intuitive practices feel a lot less fringe.

How are you all tracking the data so far? Anyone else noticing how the line between hard neuroscience and ancestral plant medicine is just completely dissolving?

I'm wary of conflating DMN quieting with actual structural repair in neurodegeneration. While psilocybin may enhance plasticity, it doesn't clear amyloid plaques or regenerate lost neurons, so the "healing" is likely a temporary perceptual shift rather than a reversal of the underlying pathology.
