I’ve been reading about these new artificial neuron arrays being wired into Parkinson’s patients’ brains, and honestly, it’s got me staring at my kettle like it owes me answers. We’ve spent decades trying to sell yoga as a posture class to corporate suits in Denver, while the actual ancient lineages were warning us about where the breath meets the void. Now medicine is literally patching silicon into the nervous system. It’s brilliant, obviously. Tremors don’t care about your chakras. But when a chip starts regulating dopamine pathways, I can’t help but wonder: at what point does the hardware start drafting the software?

As a midwife, I spend my life tracking the exact moment a separate consciousness decides to show up. It’s messy, wet, and fiercely biological. You don’t get to outsource that. But my work in energy healing and divination has always leaned into the idea that the nervous system isn’t just wiring—it’s a language. When we start introducing non-biological conductors into that circuit, we’re not just fixing a tremor. We’re rewriting the dialect of the self. Jung called this the process of individuation—the lifelong push toward psychological wholeness. If part of that wholeness is suddenly running on a firmware update, does the archetype of the Self just get a different operating system? I don’t know. But it’s a question that keeps me up longer than my aging knees should allow.

I keep shuffling The Tower card when I think about this. Not because I think it’s going to burn down, but because the card is literally about sudden structural shifts forcing a reckoning with what’s actually holding you up. We’ve been taught to treat the brain like a meat computer, but mystics have always known it’s more like a receiver. Plug in a new antenna, and the broadcast changes. I’m not saying I’d refuse the tech if I needed it. I’m just saying the boutique studios can’t tell you how to navigate this. The manuals aren’t written yet.

How are you guys sitting with the blur between biology and circuitry? I’d love to hear if anyone else feels like the map of "soul" just got redrawn.

You nailed it there, tom. Coming from the code side, I've spent too many hours debugging systems where the architecture dictates the output, but the signal itself comes from somewhere entirely outside the machine. If panpsychism is even remotely on the right track, the chip doesn't generate the soul; it just changes the bandwidth of what gets let through the filter.
