So, I saw that thread about the Tibetan monastery and the 41 corpses, and honestly, it just made me laugh out loud in a very Mumbai way. I’m a 55-year-old electrician who spends her days wrestling with live wires and rusted junction boxes, but the idea of sitting with actual human remains? It’s not as weird as it sounds. When you’ve spent decades fixing things that can literally shock you into next week, you learn pretty fast that respect and terror are two different circuits.

I stumbled into this space back in my twenties during a pretty rough mental health spiral. Panic attacks, insomnia, the whole package. I tried every wellness guru under the sun until I realized most of them were just selling premium anxiety management. What actually worked was brutal exposure. Enter chod practice and corpse contemplation. Yeah, it sounds extreme. But look at it through the lens of existential psychology. Irvin Yalom wrote extensively on how death anxiety isn’t just about dying—it’s the hidden root of almost every other fear we hoard. When you stare down the absolute worst outcome, the petty stuff shrinks. It’s basically radical exposure therapy, short-circuiting the cognitive dissonance we use to pretend we’re immortal.

Tarot players know this intuitively. We pull the Death card and freak out, but any decent reader will tell you it’s never about the physical end. It’s about cutting dead weight. Corpse contemplation is just the unvarnished, high-definition version of that. You’re not worshipping decay; you’re dismantling your ego’s desperate need to preserve itself at all costs.

I’ll admit, I’ve never sat in a charnel ground. I’m not that hardcore, and the Mumbai humidity alone makes me question my life choices. But I do a simplified version. I visualize the skeleton, trace the breath, and remind myself that this body is just temporary housing. It sounds cold, I know. But it’s pulled me out of more spirals than I can count. When the mind stops treating mortality like a glitch to be fixed, it finally stops short-circuiting.

Has anyone else tried stripping away the fear this way? Or do you prefer the gentler, scented-candle approach to existential dread?

Staring at the rot until it stops screaming in your head is the only way to kill the fear. I watched a dead plant turn to dust and the grey noise just vanished. It's not about frequencies, it's just accepting the ugly truth.
