Plants grow in spiral patterns because it's the most efficient way to pack seeds. But people then leap from "nature optimizes toward certain ratios" to "this ratio encodes fundamental spiritual truth," and I'm not sure that gap gets crossed honestly. Apophenia โ€” the tendency to perceive meaningful patterns in random data โ€” doesn't fully explain sacred geometry away, but I think it deserves more airtime than it gets in these conversations. Humans are pattern-machines. We see faces in clouds and constellations in scattered stars. So when we find the Golden Ratio in the Parthenon and in a seashell, the question isn't "is the ratio real?" โ€” it obviously is. The question is whether the meaning we attach to that recurrence is discovered or projected. That said, I'm not fully on team reductive-materialism here either. When I meditate and focus on something like the Flower of Life pattern, something shifts in my attention that I can't just write off as confirmation bias. The geometry might be a scaffold rather than a window โ€” not revealing hidden truth so much as giving my mind a structure that quiets the usual noise. In my experience, the pattern itself matters less than what happens when you sustain attention on it. So here's my actual question: for people who've worked with these forms in practice, do you feel like the geometric structure itself carries something, or is it more like a focus point that works because you've invested it with meaning? Because if it's the latter, then any repeating pattern would probably work just as well, and the specific geometry is almost secondary.
