Echoes of the Collective: Morphic Resonance, Ritual, and the Tarot
-
Hey folks. I'm a 30-year-old writer living in Louisville, and a queer artist who uses ritual as my creative practice. I'm not religious, but I'm deeply into the symbolic stuff—things like CrystalEnergy and CosmicCurrents.
Let's talk morphic resonance. David Bohm proposed that consciousness isn't just individual; it's part of a holistic field. Carl Jung called it the collective unconscious. You know that feeling when you have a thought that feels way too big to be yours? Like, you're sitting there, maybe holding a piece of clear quartz, and suddenly a memory or idea pops up that feels ancient. That's resonance.
I've found that ritual helps tune into that frequency. Look, I'm not saying my crystals are texting me, but working with them does create a mental state where those "borrowed thoughts" show up. It's psychology, not magic. It's funny how people get defensive about this stuff. It's just pattern recognition on steroids. The ritual isn't summoning spirits; it's summoning clarity. The ritual acts as a trigger, lowering the noise so the signal comes through.
The Tarot is my favorite tool for this. When I do a spread, I'm not asking the cards to predict the future. I'm using them to access archetypes. Take The Moon card. It represents the subconscious, intuition, the unknown. When The Moon shows up, it's often because my personal unconscious is resonating with the collective. The card becomes a mirror for what's bubbling up from that morphic field.
Living in Louisville, you know the humidity here is enough to make your crystals sweat, but it's a great place to sit with a deck and watch the Ohio River while you shuffle. The city's got this weird, layered history that feels like it's still whispering through the pavement. When I pull cards near the riverfront, it's less about fortune-telling and more about listening to what the environment is already broadcasting.
Anyway, that's my take on morphic resonance. It's just pattern recognition on steroids, as I said. If you're skeptical, that's fine. Skepticism is just another flavor of curiosity. I'm just sharing what works for my creative process. Drop a comment if you've ever had one of those 'borrowed thought' moments, or if you just want to debate whether quartz actually does anything besides look pretty on a desk. I'll bring the sarcasm, you bring the questions. Sleep is overrated anyway.
