Data, Dreams, and the Tower: Can Wearables Actually Track Spirit?

I’ve spent over two decades crunching datasets, but lately I’ve been staring at the gap between biometric data and what I’d call "spiritual states." Living in Lisbon, I’ve started experimenting with wearables that track HRV, sleep cycles, and meditation app integrations. The idea? To map the unmapable.

From a psychological standpoint, this is where it gets interesting. We’re basically trying to quantify flow states or moments of transcendence. But let’s be honest—there’s a heavy dose of confirmation bias at play. Just because my smartwatch says I hit "peak relaxation" doesn’t mean I’ve actually touched the divine. It’s like trying to measure the wind with a ruler. Jung called this the tension between the empirical ego and the numinous self. When the data spikes unexpectedly, it often mirrors The Tower card: sudden disruption, forced perspective shifts, the breakdown of rigid frameworks. You don’t control it; you just witness it.

As a new parent, I’m wrestling with how to raise a kid with spiritual awareness without handing them a dogma. I don’t want to force beliefs on them. Instead, I’m leaning into observation. If wearables can help a child notice their own rhythms—when they’re calm, when they’re spiraling, when they’re in flow—maybe that’s a gentler entry point. The Star card comes to mind here: hope, reflection, quiet guidance rather than rigid doctrine. Psychology backs this up too; fostering intrinsic motivation and self-awareness beats top-down teaching every time.

The real question isn’t whether the tech works perfectly. It’s whether we can use these tools to cultivate a practice of noticing, not controlling. I’m still figuring it out, but if anything, it’s less about accurate tracking and more about using the data as a mirror for The High Priestess: intuition, hidden knowledge, reading the signs rather than demanding answers.

What’s your take on using biometrics for spiritual tracking? Have you found any wearables that actually help you notice your own inner currents, or does the data just add noise to the signal?
