I’m a 60-year-old paramedic and software developer who fell into consciousness studies through AI ethics work. Living out here in Omaha, I watch the prairie winds sweep across the plains, and it reminds me how reality shifts like water. The new July 2026 paper argues that a fundamental law of physics might rule out quantum consciousness. Penrose’s camp fires back, insisting the math is still up for debate.

It feels a lot like cognitive dissonance when we’re forced to reconcile two incompatible truths. In Jungian terms, it’s shadow work—facing the parts of reality we don’t want to see. The Moon card comes to mind. It speaks of illusions, deep subconscious waters, and the fog of uncertainty. When science pulls back the veil, we’re left navigating that lunar landscape.

I’ve always found panpsychism compelling. If awareness is woven into the fabric of reality itself, maybe we don’t need quantum leaps to explain it. But Penrose insists the quantum realm is still the key. Reality isn’t a switch; it’s a tide. The new paper tries to dam the flow, but Penrose says the water finds its way. I keep coming back to the Hermit—walking alone with a lantern, seeking clarity in the dark. The math may be debated, but the search for understanding never ends. I’m curious how you all see this clash. Do you lean toward the new law, or do you trust Penrose’s quantum defense?
