When the Cards Speak Louder Than the Script
-
I’ve spent half my life breathing other people’s words for a living. Voice acting is all about precision, hitting the mark, making the invisible visible. But when I first picked up a tarot deck here in Birmingham, I realized I wasn’t reading a script. I was reading a mirror.
Jung called it projection, but I call it cognitive framing. Every time I lay out cards, my brain isn’t pulling predictions out of thin air—it’s sorting the static. The Major Arcana aren’t just pictures; they’re archetypal waypoints. The Fool isn’t a literal jester; it’s that moment of radical openness, the kind that hit me hard during my legal psychedelic trials. PTSD taught me to brace for impact, but the deck taught me to lean into the unknown.
I meditate daily now, and shuffling cards is just another form of mindfulness. The sarcasm? Sure, I’ll admit it. Sometimes I look at a spread and think, “Oh great, another card telling me to stop overcomplicating things.” But that’s the point. Tarot doesn’t predict; it reflects. It’s less about fortune-telling and more about psychological navigation. The cards act as a structured prompt, forcing your subconscious to surface what’s already there.
If you’re looking for a crystal ball, keep looking. But if you want a tool to map your inner terrain, the deck’s already waiting. The connection isn’t magic—it’s mechanics. Your mind meets symbol, and suddenly the noise clears.
What’s your experience been? Do you see the cards as a mirror, or are you still chasing predictions?
