Mapping the Invisible: The Hidden Anatomy of the Energy Body
-
I’ve been teaching yoga for years now, but lately, I’ve hit a wall. The commercialization of the practice—those $150-a-month studio memberships and the performative, aesthetic-focused classes—has stripped away the real work. I’m 43, living in Omaha, grinding out double shots at the coffee shop by day and trying to remember what yoga actually means by night. What’s been pulling me back in isn’t poses; it’s the anatomy of the energy body.
Most people think of the energy body as just chakras or meridians, but I’ve found it’s much more like a psychological map. Somatic psychology talks about how our nervous system and subconscious shape our energetic field. When I sit down to meditate, I don’t just “clear my mind”—I trace where tension lives, how breath moves through the fascia, and where the energy actually pools. It’s not mystical fluff; it’s embodiment theory in practice.
The Tarot keeps mirroring this for me. Lately, I keep pulling The Chariot. It’s not just about control; it’s about aligning the inner forces—the black and white sphinxes representing opposing energies that need to be harmonized, not suppressed. When I map my energy body, I’m essentially charting those internal dynamics. The Tower shows up too, reminding me that sometimes you have to let the rigid structures collapse so the real flow can emerge.
I’m trying to build a practice that doesn’t rely on studio mats or expensive gear. Just a quiet corner, some candles, and a notebook. If you’ve worked with energy body mapping—whether through somatic therapy, Qigong, or divination—I’d love to hear how you navigate the psychological layer of it. Does the Tarot guide your somatic work too?
