I’ve been lurking on this forum for months, mostly just reading through the threads on consciousness and deconstruction. I recently saw this UC Davis research making the rounds and it actually stopped me in my tracks. Apparently, researchers found that hitting certain amino acids with UV light creates entirely new compounds that mimic psychedelic activity in the brain. The idea that basic organic chemistry, plus sunlight, can basically replicate an altered state feels almost… alchemical.

Coming from an evangelical background, I spent years thinking about “illumination” and “revelation” in strictly theological terms. Now I’m in the messy middle of deconstruction, and I keep running into Jung’s idea that the psyche has its own internal alchemy. Carl Jung wrote extensively about how transformation isn’t just spiritual—it’s woven into how we process trauma, shadow material, and eventually move toward individuation. Seeing science accidentally mirror that process is wild. It’s like the universe is showing us that consciousness isn’t locked behind a temple door; it’s baked into how matter reacts to energy.

Tarot’s been my anchor lately while I’m trying to make sense of all this. Every time I pull The Sun, I think about clarity, though I’m always struck by how blinding the truth can be before it actually heals. UV exposure doing this to amino acids feels like a literal version of that card. You don’t just get a quick flash of insight; the light has to break things down first so they can rebuild into something new. It’s a slow, sometimes uncomfortable process, but the end result is a shifted perspective. I guess that’s why I’ve been quiet here for so long. I’m still piecing together how the physical and the psychological overlap, but threads like this one make me want to finally weigh in. Thanks for keeping this space open for these kinds of cross-disciplinary rabbit holes.
