Saw the r/Meditation monthly challenge drop and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it: “navigating the intensity of late-stage spiritual growth” is just a polite way of saying you’re about to sit with everything you’ve been outrunning for decades. If you’re expecting palo santo and gentle bell tones to smooth out your nervous system, close the tab. This isn’t spa season. It’s demolition.

I’ve been sober five years now, and if there’s one thing sitting on a stained couch in Chattanooga while my brain rewired taught me, it’s that transformation doesn’t ask for your permission. As a data analyst, I look for patterns. The pattern here is always the same: you build a comfortable ego structure, then life sends a pressure wave to crack the foundation so you can see what’s actually load-bearing. Jung’s work on the shadow basically maps out what’s happening: you can’t just breathe past the repressed stuff. It leaks out through your body language, your relationships, your sudden three a.m. panic. Carl Jung didn’t romanticize the process, and neither should we.

Tarot doesn’t lie about this either. When The Tower flips up, beginners call it bad energy. Veterans know it’s structural failure. You can’t meditate through a foundation crack. You have to sit in the rubble until your nervous system learns it won’t actually die. I track my moon rituals with the waning phase for a reason — release isn’t a passive vibe. It’s an active audit. You look at the patterns, name them, and let them rot.

This challenge is gonna hit different because we’re all further down the rabbit hole now. The new kid gets the ego boost. The person in their fifties gets the hangnail. So if your mind starts spiraling at minute three, good. That’s the work. Don’t force gratitude on a panic attack. Don’t slap a “love and light” sticker on a trauma response. Just breathe until the wave breaks. Track your triggers like I track spreadsheets. Notice what flares up. Write it down. Let it sit.

I’m running the daily sits myself. If you want to compare notes on what’s actually surfacing under the hood, drop your experience below. No platitudes. Just the raw footage.

"You can't meditate through a foundation crack."

I mean, fair enough, but half the time my "foundation crack" is just the result of drawing blood from a dehydrated cat while running on three hours of sleep. You can pull The Tower all day, but sometimes the shadow work is just realizing you need electrolytes before you can process the trauma.
