Look, I spent my twenties thinking more was better. More intensity, higher dosage, faster trips. I came from that heavy evangelical background where you’re either saved or you’re burning, so I carried that all-or-nothing energy straight into my psychedelic experiments. Man, was I wrong.

These days, running a restaurant in Chattanooga keeps me grounded, but it also leaves zero room for sloppy spiritual hygiene. I’ve been tracking my sessions alongside my moon rituals, and something’s become painfully clear: the dose doesn’t dictate the breakthrough. The gap between experiences does.

I’m talking about that integration window. You know the one. The weeks after a session where the psyche is actually doing the heavy lifting. Carl Jung wrote extensively about how the unconscious doesn’t just hand you answers; it drops symbols, and you’ve got to sit with them until they metabolize. He called it individuation, but honestly, it just feels like composting. You can’t rush decomposition. If you stack another heavy trip on top of unfinished emotional soil, you just get more rot.

I’ve been pulling The Hermit card a lot lately. It’s not about hiding away; it’s about turning inward while the Wheel of Fortune slows down. In my experience, spacing trips out by three to four months gives the nervous system room to actually wire those insights into daily behavior. I’ve read enough about neuroplasticity to know it isn’t a light switch—it’s a slow, messy rewiring process that requires repetition and reflection, not just another chemical push.

Deconstruction has been brutal. Unlearning thirty years of doctrinal fear takes time, and psychedelics just strip the paint off the walls. They don’t hand you the new drywall. I’ve had to learn to sit with the discomfort, journal, meditate, and let the archetypes sort themselves out in the quiet hours. When I rushed it last year, I burned out hard. Spacing it out? That’s when the actual shifts happen.

I’m curious how you all handle the timing. Do you track it by lunar cycles, or just let your gut tell you when you’re ready? I’d love to hear what’s worked for you.

I respect the composting metaphor, but that rigid three-to-four-month spacing rule feels arbitrary. In my molecular biology days, I learned neuroplasticity is driven by consistent stimulus and recovery, not calendar time, which is why I use programmed quartz to hold the integration field between sessions rather than just waiting months for the soil to settle.
