I’ll be honest, the whole “meditation trends for 2026” pipeline is making me a little queasy. Between AI-generated mantras, biofeedback rings that grade your calm, and subscription models that promise enlightenment by Q3, it’s hard not to feel like we’re back to square one with the commercialization I’ve been fighting in yoga studios for years. I teach vinyasa in Providence, and I’ve watched the practice get stripped down to aesthetic alignment and stress-relief marketing. So when I finally ditched the guided apps and just sat on my worn-out mat with a piece of raw amethyst on my altar, I expected boredom. Instead, I got a full-system reckoning.

There’s a reason Carl Jung talked about individuation as a messy, non-linear process. You don’t get there by optimizing your breathwork. You get there when you stop running from the static. I started showing up to my sitting practice without an agenda, and that’s when the real alchemy kicked in. My mind stopped trying to fix things and started handing me the receipts. Unprocessed grief, creative burnout from my music gigs, the quiet resentment I’ve held onto about the wellness industry—it all surfaced. It felt a lot like pulling The Hermit in a reading: that heavy, isolating pull toward the inner cave where you actually have to look at what’s been shadowed out.

I’m not saying crystals do the work for you, obviously. But placing my hands on a stone that’s been sitting in the same spot for decades while I sit in stillness? It grounds the intention. It reminds me that transformation isn’t a sprint. Jung called it confronting the shadow, but in practice, it just feels like learning to sit with the parts of yourself that don’t want to be polished for social media.

I’m curious how y’all are navigating this shift away from gamified mindfulness. When you strip away the tracking and the promises, what’s actually showing up in your practice? Do you find that the discomfort eventually softens, or does it just demand more presence? I’d love to hear how you’re holding space for the unglamorous parts of the work.
