    I’ve been teaching yoga in Portland for nearly two decades. Honestly, I’m exhausted by the matcha-and-athleisure version we’re selling now. The asanas got commodified. The breathwork became a subscription service. So I went back to the roots. Dry, unglamorous, long-sitting meditation. No props. No playlists. Just me and the silence.

    Last month, something cracked open. Not a trippy visual or a cosmic voyage. More like the floor dissolved into static. I felt every nerve ending light up simultaneously. It lasted maybe twelve minutes. Felt exactly like a microdose of DMT, except I didn’t take anything. Just pranayama and dead silence.

    Jung called this tapping into the collective unconscious. I don’t need a lab coat to tell me he wasn’t just theorizing. When you strip away the ego’s need to control the breath, the subconscious just speaks. It’s the High Priestess card made flesh: veiled intuition, tidal memory, the kind of knowing that bypasses logic entirely. I’ve read neuroimaging studies showing long-term meditators actually experience reduced activity in the default mode network. Science is finally catching up to what the old alchemists mapped in their crucibles.

    I’m not saying drop your job and sit on a mountaintop. But if you’re tired of the wellness industrial complex telling you how
