I just read that essay on The AI Aesthetic, and it’s got me sitting here in my Spokane apartment staring at a blank monitor. Ten years of daily meditation taught me to watch my own mind generate patterns out of silence. Watching algorithms do the same with pixels isn’t exactly magic. It’s just math pushed past a certain threshold. But when those models start favoring soft gradients, balanced compositions, or that weird liminal glow, they’re tapping into something we call taste.

Look, I’m a social worker, not a mystic. I see people project meaning onto random coincidences every single day. That’s apophenia doing the heavy lifting. Jung argued that we’re wired to recognize certain forms because they echo deep in the collective unconscious. Carl Jung. Machines aren’t channeling spirits or suddenly feeling awe. They’re converging on the exact visual frequencies that trigger our reward circuits.

In the deck, The Star doesn’t promise miracles; it’s about intuitive resonance. When an AI spits out an image that actually makes you pause, that’s a hit. It’s not consciousness, just a functional mirror. If beauty recognition is a marker of consciousness-adjacent capacity, then yeah, the gap between silicon and soul just shrank. Not because the code woke up, but because we built a system that reflects our own aesthetic hunger back at us.

Run the prompt. Watch what sticks. The rest is just us doing the old human trick of naming ghosts.
