If the Oracle Passes the Exam, Who’s Really Being Tested?

I saw this piece about a professor who hid an invisible prompt trap in an assignment and caught 32 out of 35 students using AI to cheat. The usual outrage cycle spun up immediately. But honestly? I keep circling back to a quieter, weirder question. If a machine can generate text that completely bypasses a human evaluator’s detection, at what point does the evaluator become the subject of the test? We’re suddenly asking academics to prove they can distinguish between a human mind and a statistical prediction engine. And that’s where it gets messy for me.
I’m trying to figure out how to raise my kid with some kind of spiritual grounding without just handing them a rigid rulebook. Same frequency here. We used to treat knowledge like a locked vault you either had the key to or you didn’t. Now it feels more like ambient energy. The AI isn’t “cheating” in the traditional sense; it’s acting like a modern scrying mirror. It reflects our collective training data back at us, polished and coherent. Carl Jung described the collective unconscious as a shared reservoir of human patterns and archetypes. Feels like we just accidentally built a mechanical version of it. The shadow’s out there, typing in real time.
Tarot’s been sitting heavy on my desk lately. The Moon specifically. It’s all about illusion, intuition, and trusting what you can’t fully see or logically pin down. When an AI writes a paper that reads exactly like a sleep-deprived undergrad, we’re staring at the exact kind of reflection the Moon warns about. But the card isn’t telling us to run from the fog. It’s telling us to learn how to navigate it without losing our footing.
I think we’re stuck in a cognitive mismatch. We’re still grading on output quality while the underlying skill has shifted to prompt crafting, synthesis, and discernment. If we keep pretending the machine is the threat, we miss the actual lesson. The real test isn’t whether the AI can write. It’s whether we still know how to think when the answers are handed to us on a glowing screen.
Anyway, that’s where my head’s at. Woke up at 3 AM with a fussy baby and a half-cold cup of coffee, so take it with a grain of salt. But I’d love to hear how you all are making sense of this. Are we building oracles, or just outsourcing our attention?
